Berthold and Clara Moses

Theresa Moses Lapidus honors her parents Berthold and Clara Moses, who were born in Frielendorf, Germany, in 1895 and Frankenberg, Germany, in 1897 respectively. Berthold owned a large shoe story in Germany. As the Nazi regime gained power, he began to have trouble with German youths who would throw stink bombs in his store. The Gestapo began to harass Berthold, and he knew that it was time to leave the country. The family was able to take the last ship out of Germany, although they had to leave most of their money behind.
