Henry Wolkoff was born in Lutomiersk, Poland, in 1914 and later moved to Lódz. He was sent to Mauthausen concentration camp in addition to Ebensee. He was the only one to survive the Holocaust in his family. Henry met his wife Sally during the war while they were both in the Pabianice ghetto; they married in 1945 and moved to Munich. They came to the United States in 1954 and eventually opened a jewelry store at the Belle Meade Plaza in Nashville. The store remained open for more than thirty years. Of his experiences during the Holocaust that he shared with his wife, he once said, “We don’t talk about it. It is very hard for us.”
