Hermine Preis

Elaine Preis, Bill Cook, Linda Preis, and Barry Zeitlin honor Hermine Preis, who was born on July 6, 1887, in Sopron, Hungary. She married Ignaz Preis on March 30, 1910, and was last heard from in 1941. Relatives had attempted to hide her from the Nazis, but she was eventually discovered and subsequently deported. She was taken to Riga, Latvia, where she was shot by the Nazis in 1942. It was once thought that she died at Theresienstadt, but this information was later found to be incorrect. Her husband also died during the Holocaust; he had been sent east under the Nisko Plan, where he eventually died.
