Itzik Shlomovich/Ignatz Slomovic

Goldie Morris honors her father Itzik Shlomovich, who was separated from his family during World War II and sent to four concentration camps, including Auschwitz. His family did not survive, but after the war, he remarried. He met his second wife, Dvoyra, in a DP (Displaced Persons) camp in Germany. Through the help of Dvoyra’s cousin Harry Gordon, the couple relocated to Nashville. Goldie remembers her father fondly, noting “he could make you laugh” and he was “very, very sweet.” While in Nashville, he kept kosher and often spoke Yiddish at home. He worked repairing shoes.
