Josef Rosenblum

Susan Limor honors her father Josef Rosenblum, who was born in Kosice, Czechoslovakia, around 1920 and died at age 53. He was interred in a Russian labor camp, but managed to escape. Josef stayed in Czechoslovakia and led a partisan group during the war. He was later offered some land by the Communist leadership, but he chose to relocate to Israel, as he had strong Zionist beliefs and felt no Jew was safe outside of Israel. He stayed in temporary block housing near Haifa that was created for Holocaust survivors, but eventually moved to the United States with his wife Yentu and his daughter Susan and son Jehuda. Josef worked as a maintenance electrician in Jersey City, but never felt completely at home in America, as he felt financially insecure and socially isolated.
