Sabina Heinemann

Susan Berman honors her paternal grandmother Sabina Freiman Heinemann, who was born in 1895. When conditions for Jews worsened in Treuchlingen, Sabina and her husband relocated to Munich. Her husband and son were arrested on Kristallnacht, and sent to Dachau where they remained for several weeks. Fortunately, Sabina was able to obtain papers to allow them to leave Germany. She presented them to the Gestapo, and they were released with the understanding that they would leave Germany as soon as possible. Sabina and her family left Germany six months later and settled in the United States.
