Dr. Jerome Klein honors his paternal grandfather, Solomon Klein, who was born in Budapest, Hungary. According to his grandson, he came from “upper middle-class Hungarian Jews, owners of various privately owned stores. My grandfather, Solomon Klein, was a chemist….They lived until 1942, when the Nazis brought horror and grief into their happy lives.” Solomon Klein was the father of a number of children, many of whom were able to leave Hungary before the Holocaust. Solomon Klein died at Auschwitz sometime between 1942 and 1943.
