Esther Loeb and Regina Stern honor their mother’s family, the Kolenbreners, who oversaw a fruit wholesale business in Poland. Esther remembers visiting her grandparents once a year; she recalls her grandfather being very pious and diligent about keeping kosher. Both he and his wife died before the war began. However, Esther’s mother Chana also had five brothers and two sisters, all of whom died during the war, in addition to their own families.
