Martin and Barbara Mayden honor Mendel and Tillie Maiden & Yankel, Yitzra, Yossell, Esther, and Reisel. Martin’s paternal grandparents, Mendel and Tillie, lived in Gerakalwaria, Poland, often referred to as Ger. Tillie had long, pretty hair, and Mendel was tall and wore a beard and pais. The couple had many children, including brothers Jack, Yankel, Yitzra, and Yossell, and sisters Esther, who was a brunette, and Reisel, who was a blonde. Yankel was the oldest brother, and worked as a successful businessman in Warsaw; he was married and had two children Yitzra never married. Mendel died of liver failure, but the rest of his family ended up in the Warsaw ghetto. It is likely that they died there, but no one knows for sure what happened to them during the Holocaust.
