Theresa Moses Lapidus honors her paternal grandmother Emma Moses, who was born in Frielendorf, Germany, in 1870. She worked as a shop owner and lived in a small town. During the Holocaust, the Jewish population was forced to move out and the Synagogue was burned during Kristellnacht. Lapidus recalls that “I visited (my grandmother) twice together with my sister. (I) spent about two weeks with her in Frielendorf. The entire family said goodbye to her in Frankfurt before our trip to the United States (on August 31, 1938).” Several weeks later, she was transferred to Theresenstadt, were she died in 1942 at the age of 72. Lapidus remembers her as a wonderful and caring person.
