Ken Anchor honors his grandparents, Gershon and Mary Gold Anchor, who were born in Romania, probably in a small rural village. They later migrated to the United States and settled in DeSoto, Missouri, where they raised a family. It is not known why, but the couple moved back to Romania during the 1930s. Ken Anchor recalls that his father, Bernard Anchor, traveled by ship to visit them shortly before World War II. Upon his return, Bernard was almost attacked by a German warship. He continued to send money to his parents, but they perished during the Holocaust. It is not known where or how they died.
