Kurt Hans Lepehne

Eva Rosenfeld remembers her father, Kurt Hans Lepehne, who was born in 1896 in Konigsberg, East Prussia, Germany, which is now Russian territory with the city renamed Kalinnigrad. Lepehne worked as a pharmacist before he died in Auschwitz in early September 1942. He and his family had relocated to Italy, but when Italy allied with Germany, he lost his business. Soon, after being imprisoned and then released, he escaped to France in order to find a way to get his family out of Europe. He was eventually captured and killed. Rosenfeld mourns her loss, noting that “it has left me without a father and our children and grandchildren without a grandfather and great-grandfather.”
