Sally Gecel has honored her paternal grandfather Leib Gluck, who was born in Jaroslav, Poland, a thriving Jewish city in the Carpathian Mountains. Gluck worked as a wood dealer in Jaroslav, but was murdered by the Nazis when they tied his feet to the back of a horse-drawn wagon and dragged him through streets with his head striking the cobblestones. Gecel shared her family’s horrific experiences during Holocaust remembrance time when she taught at the Temple for eleven years.
