Eva Rosenfeld remembers her mother, Margarete Neuberg Lepehne, who was born in Magdeburg, Germany, in 1903, and died in Genova, Italy in 1939 of disease, possibly caused by circumstances under which she was living with her family. After the family lost their right to work in Germany, they had relocated to Italy. Lepehne’s son stayed behind to stay in school and survived the war, but it was twenty-eight years before he ever saw his sister Eva again.
