Hanna Hamburger has honored her grandfather Raphael Marx, who was born in Stein am Kocher, Germany, in 1850 and worked as a butcher. She saw her grandfather several times a year and spent a few weeks with him in the summer. He loved to play cards and go for walks; Hamburger notes that “he was a good man and I remember him always.” He was killed when he was living with his daughter Lydia in Amsterdam. The Nazis threw him down the stairs, killing him; he was 90 years old.
