Helene Schlanger Rothschild honors her brother William Schlanger, who was born in 1908 and died in 1987. He survived his internment in a work camp during the Holocaust. After he came to the United States and learned English, he opened a scrap iron store in Columbia, Tennessee. There, he married his wife Esther. Helene Schlanger Rothschild also honors her brother Aron Schlanger, who, like his brother, survived his imprisonment in a Russian work camp. He had been sent to a line where the men were about to be executed, but because he looked healthy, he was shipped to a work camp instead. Once in America, he joined his brother William’s scrap iron business. William Schlanger has also been honored by his sister-in-law Frida Landau on an earlier panel.
